For many people in Seattle and surrounding areas, the opening of Crystal Mountain is one of the most anticipated happenings of the year. As the gloomy, cold winter creeps in, Crystal Mountain Resort provides something of a safe haven for nearby residents. It’s one of the largest ski resorts in Washington, sprawling across 2,600 acres with 11 lifts and over 80 runs.
Crystal Mountain Ski Resort in Washington State
Annually, Crystal Mountain typically opens in late November or early December. This year, it was set to open on November 25th. However, with two feet of natural snow and some additional manmade show, Crystal Mountain was able to open a week earlier than that.
Season pass holders were the first to hit the slopes on November 18th. It opened to the general public shortly after that. With 40 snow-making machines now, the resort may see earlier openings like this going forward. It could also see longer seasons.

Whether you’re a mediocre skier, a professional snowboarder, or enjoy calmer winter activities, Crystal Mountain Resort has something for everyone. With over 80 runs and a terrain park, there are slopes for any skill level. But if you don’t want to hit the slopes, you can take a scenic gondola ride, go snowshoeing, or simply enjoy a meal at one of the dozen restaurants on site. There are also tons of events throughout the season, like a New Years’ Eve Bash, Snow Glow Disco, and a Mardi Gras Party, as well as many competitions.
